Hi Susan – Thanks for mentioning ear fungus. It serves as a reminder that fungal infections can affect practically any part of the body, particularly areas that remain moist, and unexposed for long periods of time (like the ear, underneath the nails, genital area etc). Ear fungus can indeed become very serious if left untreated. Few fungus infections clear up spontaneously without treatment so you are right; early treatment (and prevention steps before that) are key.

Hi Penny, My suggestion is to follow your doctor’s advice and ask follow up questions if you are unclear. There may be specific issues to do with your case that only your doctor can address. (The trouble with nail polish is that it reduces the ability of your nail and the skin underneath the nail to “breathe.” This can create a moist environment that is more conducive to fungal growth.)

I was given the ‘polish’ type tineacide by my doctor (physician formula) He said not to use it over nail polish. If I ‘paint’ it on around the cuticles and under the nail is it alright to use nail polish? With summer approaching and opened toe shoes….

Hi Mary, you have some amazing info here on this blog. Luckily, I don’t have a toenail fungus, but here is a question for you. Have you ever investigated ear fungus? I had an ear fungus about five years ago that ate away about 70% of my eardrum before we got it cleared up. So certain fungal infections are not something you want to play around with. It might be helpful for your readers to know what to do about that kind BEFORE it happens.
